Campo24 – A little bit of history

Why Campo de’ Fiori? Until 400 where there is now the square there was a huge flowery field.

In the thirteenth century, with the construction of new buildings and the opening of labs and shops, the square became an obligatory point of passage for ordinary citizens and prominent personalities: the nightlife started very early. The picturesque market has been held here since 1869, while in 1889 the monument dedicated to the philosopher Giordano Bruno was erected. Campo de’ Fiori is the only square in Rome that does not have churchs.
